Hi, I’m Jessica — wife, mom, home cook, and the heart behind The Tarnished Spoon.
This space grew out of my love for cooking, sharing meals, and creating a warm and welcoming life for the people I love. After making a life-changing switch to a plant-based lifestyle over 5 years ago, I found myself learning so much — not just about food, but about health, intention, nutrition, and what it really means to nourish your body and your family as well.
The Tarnished Spoon is my place to share that journey. Not just the instagram-worthy moments, but the real ones too — the trials and errors, the victories and the kitchen disasters, the meals that worked beautifully and the ones that definitely did not. I share the recipes, tips and tricks, meal planning, nutrition knowledge, and practical but intentional lifestyle shifts that have made the biggest impact in my own life – It’s all just too good not to share!
My approach to food is simple: I try to prepare meals with ingredients that are as close to their original source as possible — colorful, fresh, nourishing whole foods. But I am also a real person (we all have a little tarnish on us) who knows life does not always look perfect. My goal is not perfection. My goal is to make healthy eating feel easy, realistic, affordable, and enjoyable.
I care deeply about helping others see that feeding yourself and your family wholesome food does not have to cost an arm and a leg. It takes a little creativity, some planning, and a willingness to rethink what healthy living can look like.
Around here, you’ll find mostly whole food, plant-based recipes, simple meal ideas, holiday and entertaining inspiration, practical cooking tips, and little ways to cultivate a more intentional life on a budget. I love creating food that everyone can gather around and enjoy, whether they eat plant-based or not. Every recipe is made with care, and most are thoroughly husband-vetted before they ever make it here.
To me, Feeding our families is not just another daily task to get through. It is an act of love.
More Than Anything
I want to help bring the focus back to what matters. I want to make cooking, creating, and living exciting again. I want to encourage people to be proactive with their health, more connected to their food, and more thoughtful about the way they care for themselves and the people around them.
My hope is that the recipes and ideas shared here help you create meals that are simple, delicious, nourishing, and maybe even worthy of being passed down one day as beloved family favorites.
Because healthy living does not have to be expensive.
It does not have to be overwhelming.
And it certainly does not have to be joyless.
It can be warm, beautiful, intentional, and full of really good food.
